Podcast: Play in new window | Download
This is a tale of BRCA and how understanding basic genetics can save your life. Why does science matter? Who cares about biology and genetics if you’re not going into the medical field? Well, this it! Genetics matters past the classroom, past any medical career, but actually for each and every one of us. In this episode, we discuss how certain genetic mutations (BRCA) can make you more at risk for breast cancer. We explain how they are passed down from one generation to the next, and how they can travel down the paternal line going undetected for generations. Who really needs to be mindful? We also discuss some of the current laws, pitfalls, and ethics surrounding this topic; and then we focus too on how you can find courage within yourself and push forward past your barriers.
